Today we will continue our unit on the Bill of Rights. I am going to start out the lesson by showing you a presentation. Please use the handout provided here to take notes on the presentation I show you in class. Remember to take good notes as there will be a quiz on this material at the end of this week.

Now I will propose my constitutional amendment to the class. Here is a copy of my proposition in case you don't remember what it entailed.

Proposed Amendment: My amendment will make a law that any minor under the age of eighteen will not be allowed to purchase any video games with an "M" rating for mature, or "AO" for adults only.

Power Point Group Project:
Directions - I have separated all of you into four teams, two teams supporting my amendment, and two teams against it. It is your job as a team, using the source given to your group, to make a creative and informative power point presentation about the topic to share with the class.
Sources:
-For (Banning "M" video games for children)
Team 1:Mashable Entertainment
Team 2:Silicon Republic
-Against (Banning "M" video games for children)
Team 3: Science 2.0
Team 4:University of Rochester
Requirements:
Each power point should have at least 6 slides including the title slide.
Each power point should persuade the viewers to follow the same views as your source web site.
Each power point should give credit in a works cited slide stating your source at the end of your power point.
*Remember to work together as a team. I will be walking around to help if you need it.

Wednesday:
Today we will be finishing up our group power points and presenting them to the class. You will have twenty-five minutes to finish up in your groups and plan out your short presentation of the topic. Keep these requirements in mind as you are planning to present
Presentation Requirements:
Every person in the group will be given a small grade for participation (Everyone has to say something). A good way to plan this is to have everyone present at least one slide.
Make sure your presentation is creative and informative. try to entertain and inform your classmates at the same time.

Thursday:
Everyone in this class will represent one or two US States today. I will assign you your states. You will come up front one at a time to vote for both of your states, on my computer voting program. If you have two states you can have them vote alike or differently.
*Remember, to "ratify" the amendment, we need the State legislatures (You guys) to vote yes by a 3/4 majority vote.
While everyone else is voting, the others will be working on an assignment in Microsoft Word.

Amendment Writing Project:
Use Microsoft word to write a two page paper answering the following question:
  • Are you voting yes or no to pass my Violent Video Games Amendment? Support your answer, informatively.

Requirements:
The papers should be double spaced, 12 pt. font.
The papers should be at least 2 pages long.
The papers should give two informed reasons to support your decision using the information we talked about yesterday in the power points.
The papers should have one paragraph about your personal feelings and opinion on the topic.
  • If you finish your paper, save the document in your classroom folder. Remember, if it is not in there you won't receive a grade for this assignment.

Friday:
Today we will be taking our Bill of rights test so take out your pencils and I will pass around the tests.
When you finish your tests, use the rest of the class period to wrap up your papers from yesterday.
*Remember to save your papers in your personal classroom folders when you are finished.

If you finish your quiz and your paper, check out this Fun Constitution Quiz , I found for you.

Have a great weekend! See you Monday.
