Daily Plan:

Day 1
  • I will begin class by having the students take a Constitutional Amendments Scavenger Hunt.
  • After the students have completed the Scavenger Hunt, we will go over the answers together at the end of class, using my power point slide show I have provided. The class will turn in their papers to their classroom folder.

Day 2
  • I will begin class today by showing a presentation to the class created on Prezi.com When testing the presentation, highlight "More" at the bottom and Select "FullScreen". I think this option has a better effect for the students and is less distracting. After my presentation, I will propose a new amendment to the class on violent video games. I will provide each student with a copy of my proposition. I will explain that we, as a class will be posing as the US State legislatures who get to vote on the final call of whether to pass my amendment, but first we must become informed on the topic.
  • Students will take notes on the Bill of Rights on a preprinted note sheet, based on the information provided in the presentation.
  • After my presentation, I will propose a new amendment to the class on violent video games. I will provide each student with a copy of my proposition. I will explain that we, as a class will be posing as the US State legislatures who get to vote on the final call of whether to pass my amendment, but first we must become informed on the topic.
  • After the lesson has been presented, I will divide the class into four teams. Each team will have a source web site assigned to them. They will use the source web site to create a group power point presentation worth 20 pts. They will be given the remainder of the class period to finish the assignment and the beginning of class tomorrow.

Day 3
  • The students will begin class today with a few minutes to finish up their quick presentations and plan to present. They are are provided with the grading requirements for the project and individual grades are based on participation during presentation and creativity.
  • Almost the rest of class will be dedicated to the presentations, however I will throw in some discussion questions toward the end and allow the class to discuss the subject. Ex: What were some of the arguments we heard against violent video games? For? What do you think?

Day 4
  • I will begin class today by assigning the students each one or two U.S. States (depending on the number of students in the class) to represent in our mock vote.
  • I will have the students work on a writing assignment worth 30 pts, while they individually come up to my computer and cast their votes on whether or not to pass the amendment of their states.
  • The writing assignment will be explaining their position in the issue and defending their position with evidence. They will need more time for this assignment which I will provide them in the next class period.
  • I will remind the class to study their notes on the amendments tonight as there will be short quiz next class period.

Day 5
  • Today I will give the class a quiz on the Bill of Rights. It will be worth 50 its, or half a test. I will pass it out printed on paper and they will turn it in to me for grading.
  • They will be given instructions that their paper from Thursday is due at the end of the class period and they have their remaining time to work on it.
  • If they finish everything I have directed them to a fun constitution Quiz online to do individually by themselves while others may be concentrating.

Assure Plan:
Lesson Description
A
This lesson plan is intended for 7th grade students. These students need to have a basic understanding of the US constitution (Ex. they have already had their lessons on the basic history surrounding and The Preamble). It is important to be familiar with their experiences in technology, in order to gauge how much help they will need navigating the lesson
S
Given previous knowledge on the US Constitution and new information about the Bill of Rights, students will be able to identify and describe the first ten amendments to the Constitution, when they are given a matching quiz.
Given a reliable internet article, students will work cooperatively in groups to create a powerpoint and present it to the class.
Given access to a variety of views on a current issue in society, students will form a personal opinion on the topic and back up their opinion with informative supporting evidence.
S
Students will use:
  • Internet websites
  • Microsoft Office Software
  • Microsoft Powerpoint Software
  • Preprinted Handouts
  • Voting Program
  • Classroom Website
  • Classroom shared folders
U
  • Students will use internet web sites to complete an online scavenger hunt, designed to help them learn about the Bill of Rights, Constitution, and the amendment process.
  • Students will use internet websites to research a current topic and present an argument about that topic to present to the class as a group.
  • Students will use Microsoft Power Point to create a presentation together as a group to show to the class.
  • Students will use handouts to take notes on a presentation I am showing them, to learn about the Bill of Rights.
  • Students will use a voting program with me to cast their votes “yea” or “nay” to pass the amendment.
  • The class will use the classroom website to access their assignments and assignment descriptions.
  • The students will use shared folders in the classroom to turn in their work to me, that they have completed on the computer.
R
- The students are using the internet to research important issues and to learn about the Bill of Rights. They will utilize the information they have learned to create a group powerpoint and share the knowledge that they have learned with the rest of the class.
- In the class we will have a mock amendment process, where I will propose an amendment for the students to form an opinion on using the power points. Each student will be given state legislatures to represent and the class will use a voting program to cast their votes for their states.
- While the students are voting they will use a word processing program to write a short essay about why they made the choice that they made and support their choice two ways. Finally they will use the information they have learned throughout the week to take quiz that I have prepared for them.
E
- Student learning can be assessed in the powerpoint based on their participation and creativity. If the facts are correct, it can be said that as a group they seemed to understand the article they were assigned to write about.
- Student learning can be assessed in the papers by their reasoning to support their opinion and their knowledge of the current issue the class is discussing.
- Finally the quiz can be used to determine how much information the class is retaining on the Bill of Rights and the amendment passing process.
